How Many Episodes Can You Record in One Session?

In a one-hour studio booking, you can realistically record one 40–50-minute episode or two 20–25-minute episodes. In a three-hour session, most hosts comfortably record three or four. Beyond that, the limit is usually your voice and energy, not the clock.

Recording several episodes in one sitting is called batching, and it is the single best way to cut your cost per episode and keep a show consistent. This guide shows how many episodes fit into each booking length, a sample run sheet, and how to plan a whole season.

How many episodes fit into each booking

These figures assume 10–15 minutes per episode for resets, breaks, and the occasional retake. Use them as a planning guide.

Booking length 40–50 minute episodes 20–25 minute episodes
1 hour 1 2
2 hours 2 3–4
3 hours 3 5–6
4 hours 3–4 6–8

After about three hours of talking, most people start to sound flatter and make more mistakes. If you want more than four long episodes, split them across two sessions.

Why batching saves money and effort

  • Lower cost per episode. At Gulf Podcast Studios, a single hour of recording is AED 450. With the 10-hour package, it works out to about AED 300 an hour, and you can split the hours across sessions over six months. Our Dubai podcast studio cost guide shows the full comparison.
  • Consistent quality. Same lighting, same microphone positions, same camera framing. Episodes sound and look like one show.
  • A buffer. With four episodes in the bank, a busy month or a sick day doesn’t break your publishing schedule.
  • Fewer trips. One trip to Business Bay instead of four, which matters even more if you’re driving in from Abu Dhabi or Sharjah.

A sample three-hour run sheet

Here’s how a three-episode session might look. A 10 am start also avoids Dubai’s morning peak traffic and Salik toll rates.

Time What happens
10:00 Brief with operator, microphone placement, sound check
10:15 Episode 1: solo episode (warms up your voice)
11:00 10-minute break; change top
11:10 Episode 2: interview with Guest A
11:55 10-minute break; Guest A leaves, Guest B is seated and mic-checked
12:05 Episode 3: interview with Guest B
12:50 Record intros, outros and any promo lines; wrap

Ask guests to arrive 15 minutes before their slot so they’re ready during the changeover, not after it.

Seven tips for a smooth batch session

  1. Start with the easiest episode. A solo episode or a familiar guest warms you up. Put your most important interview second, when you’re relaxed but not yet tired.
  2. Change your top between episodes. It makes episodes recorded on the same day look like they were filmed weeks apart.
  3. Avoid dates and dated references. Say “recently” instead of “this week”, and skip mentions of the weather or the news unless the show is topical.
  4. Record intros and outros at the end. By then you know what each episode covered, so your intros are sharper.
  5. Keep a timestamp log. Note the minute of each great moment. It speeds up editing and clip selection.
  6. Protect your voice. Drink room-temperature water, avoid dairy and fizzy drinks before recording, and rest your voice in breaks.
  7. Leave buffer for guests. At least 10 minutes between guest slots, so a late arrival doesn’t cut into the next episode.

Planning a full season with a 10-hour package

Ten studio hours is enough for a ten-episode season of 40–50 minute episodes. Here is one way to split it:

Session Hours What you record
1 3 Trailer and episodes 1–3
2 3 Episodes 4–6
3 2 Episodes 7–8
4 2 Episodes 9–10

Released weekly, that’s ten weeks of content from four studio visits. Released every two weeks, it covers about five months. Many coaches use a similar approach to turn one session into a month of content.

Who edits all those episodes?

Batching creates a lot of footage at once. If you edit yourself, plan your editing time before you book. If you’d rather receive finished episodes, the 10-hour package with editing (AED 5,995) includes professional video and audio editing on every hour. Our comparison of recording-only and recording-plus-editing packages helps you choose, and our podcast editing services page explains what the edit includes.

When not to batch

  • Your very first episode. Record a single pilot first, listen back, adjust the format, then batch.
  • News and timely shows. If your episodes react to the week’s events, batching only works for evergreen segments.
  • Large panels. Three or four guests in one episode is demanding. For panel shows, one or two episodes per session is more realistic. Our guide to panel podcasts explains why.

Frequently asked questions

How many podcast episodes can I record in one hour?

One 40–50 minute episode, or two 20–25 minute episodes, allowing time for setup and short breaks.

How many episodes should I batch at once?

Three or four long episodes per session is a comfortable maximum for most hosts. More than that, and energy and voice quality usually drop.

Can I split the 10-hour package into several visits?

Yes. At Gulf Podcast Studios, you can split the 10 hours across multiple sessions and use them over six months.

Will batched episodes sound repetitive?

Not if you vary the guests, topics, and your outfit, and keep dated references out. Listeners hear episodes a week apart, not back-to-back.

Should I record intros separately?

Yes. Recording intros and outros at the end of the session makes them more accurate and gives your editor clean, separate files.
